If you’ve just had your carpet fitted and there’s a line across the surface, don’t fret. It’s probably not the manufacturer or fitter’s fault, nor will it remain there forever.
There are numerous reasons why there could be a line across your carpet but the most common is known as a ‘pole mark’. Pole marks are lines across the width of a carpet, about 12 to 18 inches from the edge.
They occur when the carpet is rolled onto the carboard tube. When it’s rolled, occasionally the rough edge of the carpet can press into the pile, squashing the fibres and leaving a line from one side to the other.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look great but the good news is, it will disappear in time. How long this takes, is difficult to say, but regular footfall and vacuuming across the line will help to lift the squashed fibres.
You may be wondering why this section isn’t simply removed. Well, it would be quite costly to remove every pole mark, not to mention, quite wasteful, especially given it’s just a temporary problem. Companies have tried to solve this issue but with little success and even if the line’s removed, wider, though less obvious lines continue to appear.
Pole marks are frustrating but you won’t have to put up with them forever. If you’re concerned about the appearance of your carpet, contact our team. We’ll be more than happy to investigate the problem and put your mind at ease.
